It is reported that less than half of the 229 million doses of H1N1 vaccine the Government purchased to combat against the pandemic have been administered, thereby rendering an estimated 71.5 million doses in a position to be discarded if they are kept unused before they expire, despite months of dire warnings and millions spent in taxpayer Dollars.
The federal officials claim that nearly 81 million to 91 million doses of swine flu vaccine were used through the end of February, leaving nearly 138 million doses unused.
聯邦官員聲稱,直至 2月底近8,100萬至9,100萬劑豬流感疫苗被用,留下近1.38億未使用的劑量。
They post that nearly 60 million of those will be donated to poor countries or saved keeping in mind the future possibility of requirement. However, doses already in vials and syringes will be discarded if not used before their expiration dates pass.
他們宣告近六千萬劑將被捐贈給貧窮國家或儲存,牢記將來可能有的要求。然而,劑量已經在小瓶和注射器的,如果過咗到期日仍未使用將會被丟棄。
The prospect of millions of doses of the vaccine being thrown away has emerged as a twist in the $1.6 billion program, revealed as the most ambitious immunization campaign in U. S. history.
數以百萬劑量的疫苗被丟棄的前景已浮現,作為在16億美元項目的一個扭轉,揭露為美國歷史上最雄心勃勃的免疫運動。
However, officials uncover that they were highly gratified with the effort. Between 72 million and 81 million people are estimated to have been immunized.

Keeping in mind the potential seriousness of the disease and the uncertainties linked to the vaccine production, Schuchat posted that there was no other way than to witness some doses go to waste.

It may be spring, but its still flu season. Especially since many people didn't get vaccinated.

Over stocked, and under used. Global panic, millions hospitalized, and millions of deaths-- not enough to scare many Oklahomans into getting vaccinated for the h-1-n-1 swine flu virus.

"I don't think you need shots, per se," said parent, Shawn Johnson.

"I think that's kind of crazy, everyone should get vaccinated,” said parent, Becky Gentes.

In a year’s time, more than 1,100 hospitalized, in Oklahoma, and 44 have died form the virus. Since September, causing panic among parents like Gentes.

"I don't want to be sick, I don't want my child to be sick and I certainly don't want anybody else's child to be sick," said Gentes.

The chances of that happening, increased. Only 20 percent of Oklahomans have gotten the shot.

The Centers for Disease Control says more than $100 million doses of the vaccine were wasted. Expiration dates have either passed, or are looming, leaving the CDC calling for change, next flu season.

"Definitely the recommendation is let's put it in this year's seasonal flu vaccine because we want to get people protected early on," said a CDC Spokesman.

Officials hope the effort isn't wasted next time.
