該號碼由手機公司 Mobitel發出，首位使用者，正是公司前總裁格拉什諾夫（ Vladimir Grashnov）。他後來患上癌症， 2001年病逝，年僅 48歲。坊間盛傳他是被生意對手陷害，「輻射中毒」死亡。
「 0888-888-888」其後轉到黑幫大佬季米特洛夫（ Konstantin Dimitrov）手上，他操控高達 5億鎊（ 56億港元）的販毒集團， 2003年到荷蘭巡視業務時，被俄羅斯黑幫殺手擊斃（圖），終年 31歲。無獨有偶，下一位號碼持有者是販毒集團首腦迪施勒夫（ Konstantin Dishliev），於 2005年在首都索非亞被槍手殺死。
連死三人， Mobitel已凍結號碼。記者昨日致電該號碼，只聽到系統錄音用英語和保加利亞語說：「電話沒有開，或在網絡覆蓋範圍之外。」
