The Pentagon blocked members of President Joe Biden’s incoming administration from gaining access to critical information about current operations, including the troop drawdown in Afghanistan, upcoming special operations missions in Africa and the Covid-19 vaccine distribution program, according to new details provided by transition and defense officials.

The effort to obstruct the Biden team, led by senior White House appointees at the Pentagon, is unprecedented in modern presidential transitions and will hobble the new administration on key national security matters as it takes over positions in the Defense Department on Wednesday, the officials said.

Biden openly decried the treatment his aides were receiving at the Pentagon in December, calling it “nothing short, in my view, of irresponsibility” after meetings were canceled ahead of Christmas. He said his people were denied information on the SolarWinds hack, and said his team “needs a clear picture of our force posture around the world and our operations to deter our enemies.”

But people involved with the transition, both on the Biden team and the Pentagon side, gave POLITICO a more detailed picture of what was denied, saying briefings on pressing defense matters never happened, were delayed to the last minute, or were controlled by overbearing minders from the Trump administration's side.

“Defense has traditionally been a bipartisan business between and among professionals, and this is terrible optics for those who want to copy this pettiness in the future,” said Mackenzie Eaglen, a fellow at the conservative American Enterprise Institute. The effort to block the transition from key national security information is “useless, poor form, and horrible precedent.”

This story is based on conversations with 10 Pentagon and Biden officials involved in the transition, most of whom spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive conversations.

Tensions between the Pentagon and the Biden agency landing team emerged almost the moment the General Services Administration authorized the transition to begin in late November after an initial delay following the election. While the military side of the house — the Joint Staff and the geographic combatant commanders — were more cooperative, the civilian side set up roadblocks at every turn.

“They really should not be allowed to get away with this. It’s just completely irresponsible and indefensible,” said one transition official. “To play politics with the country’s national security is just really unacceptable.”

Outgoing acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller has maintained publicly that he is committed to ensuring a smooth transfer of power, and Defense Department officials say the Pentagon has worked hard to complete the Biden team’s requests for information and interviews in challenging conditions due to the pandemic and a hyper-partisan environment.

Pentagon spokesperson Sue Gough said it is “understandable” for there to be limits on what sensitive and classified information the department can provide to the incoming team, including related to future military operations. She also defended the presence of career civilian counsel as “observers” during meetings with the Biden team, saying the lawyers’ participation ensures that the information is “properly handled.”

Transition “personnel are not government employees and thus limited to some extent on what they can receive,” Gough said. “Membership on a transition team alone is not a license to access confidential, privileged or classified government information.”

In the last few weeks, Amazon crossed a dangerous and precarious line and began a modern day book burning campaign against titles written by authors from the populist right which have been arbitrarily deemed ‘politically dangerous’.

While the internet giant continues to sell books like Karl Marx’s ‘The Communist Manifesto’, Al-Qaida’s Doctrine for Insurgency: Abd al-Aziz al-Muqrin’s ‘A Practical Course for Guerilla War’, Leon Trotsky’s ‘Terrorism and Communism’, Adolf Hitler’s ‘Mein Kampf’, ‘The Anarchist Cookbook’, the world’s largest bookstore banned ‘Mohammed’s Koran: Why Muslims Kill for Islam‘ which was co-authored by British Activist Tommy Robinson and Peter McLoughlin.

Despite scathing reviews, the book was ‘the No.1 best-selling exegesis of the Koran’ on the site. The book reportedly had over 1000 five star reviews that were left by verified Amazon customers in the last 18 months.

According to Mr. McLoughlin, the book was taken off the Amazon database sometime last month. This means that even second-hand versions cannot be sold. Amazon’s banning of the book comes just weeks after Robinson was kicked off Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

In the past year and a half, countless other conservative voices have been purged from these tech giant’s platforms.

In his novel 1984, George Orwell referred to this as the ‘memory hole.’ It’s simply not enough for totalitarians to destroy their enemies. They must have them erased from history entirely.

Many other authors from the so-called political right have had their books banned. In fact, too many to name here and now. However, a quick Google or YouTube search will reveal a whole host of banned titles from conservative authors.

As nationalist populist ideas continue to gain traction and enter into the mainstream political discussion in Europe and North America, we can expect massive globalist corporations and tech giants like Amazon, YouTube and others, along with the neoliberal politicians in their pockets, to continue to censor and ban the propagation of nationalist populist ideas. Their survival depends on it entirely since they lost the debate a long time ago.

PayPal banned anti-rape gang activist Tommy Robinson and put out a statement saying they’re trying to strike a “necessary balance between upholding free expression and open dialogue and protecting principles of tolerance, diversity and respect for all people.”

"English Defence League founder Tommy Robinson has been banned from using PayPal.

The online payments system told him he did not fit within its user guidelines and would never be able to use the platform again, the 35-year-old said.

The company said it does not comment on individual accounts but added in a statement: “We do not allow PayPal services to be used to promote hate, violence, or other forms of intolerance that is discriminatory.

[…]“They just don’t like my opinion and want to silence me,” [Robinson] told the Press Association. “The government and establishment can see I have public support, they can see I have the ability to fight back.”

Robinson said PayPal has also frozen “a lot” of money that was in the account for 180 days.

Several Members of the UK Parliament led by George Soros-funded ‘HOPE not Hate’ director Ruth Smeeth MP — who have in the past expressed their virulent hatred for President Donald Trump — are now begging his administration to ban Tommy Robinson from the U.S.

The motion, signed by Ms Smeeth along with 18 other MPs, 16 from the far-left pro-Muslim migration Labour benches and two from the nominally right-wing Conservatives, requests the UK government lobby the Trump administration to prevent a prior ban from being overturned following Mr Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, receiving an invitation to talk in Washington D.C. on the 14th of November.

The motion states that “if the U.S. Administration bows to pressure from right-wing groups and figures allied with the Trump administration and overturns Yaxley-Lennon’s ban and allow him into the U.S., the media exposure and the money he could raise on the trip will have a detrimental impact on community relations in the UK.” (Excellent!)

The motion has been promoted by the far-left Antifa-linked activist group HOPE not Hate where Ms Smeeth serves as a director and also served as a secretary before her election to Parliament, according to records kept by Companies House.

FYI: Tommy Robinson, the English Defence League-founder, was banned from entry into the U.S. by the Barack Hussein Obama administration.
