PINE CONE: Mythic Origins from Assyria, Dionysus, Caduceus to the Vatican.

The Pine Cone’s interpenetrating spirals that wind clockwise and anti-clockwise have a specific fibonacci-number signature or encoding referred to as 8:13. This perfected compression has been a historical asset for thousands of years, being the featured emblem of ancient Persian winged Gods. We see a Godly winged Genie holding a pine cone (relief from the palace of the Assyrian king Sargon II, 722-705 BC. Found in the collection of Musée du Louvre, Paris. Artist: Assyrian Art). We see another beaked and winged god Nisroch carrying the same pine cone, perhaps as a symbol of regeneration.

A monstrous 5-storey Pine Cone, called Fontana della Pigna, appears in the Vatican City. Who would build and feature a pine cone that massive, and why? The Fontana della Pigna or simply Pigna ("The Pine Cone") is a former Roman fountain, in the 1stCentury, which now decorates a vast niche in the wall of the Vatican facing the Cortile della Pigna. We also see the Vatican Pope bearing his sacred staff that is carved with a pine cone!

The pine cone also refers to the Pineal Gland, our All-Seeing Eye. A slice taken of the human brain that exposes the Pineal Gland reveals the shape or motif of the stylized Egyptian Eye.

The Medical Symbol of ancient Hermes, who is the Messenger of the Gods and guide to the underworld, is also known as the Caduceus. It features at the top of the central rod the Pine Cone that represents the Third Eye and the Gift of Kundalini Awareness, when activated. Often the Caduceus is winged meaning that in our deepest Meditations we can fly and access all Knowledge and tools for Healing.

Dionysus, also called Bacchus or (in Rome) Liber Pater, in Greco-Roman religion, a nature god of fruitfulness and vegetation, was especially known as a god of wine and ecstasy, and is portrayed with a staff made of fennel and tipped by a pine cone called a “Thyrsus” and entwined with ivy leaves, grape leaves and berries. This staff represents fertility and prosperity and could turn a rock into water and the water into wine, and was often tossed in the Bacchic dance.
