In the US, one out of every 100 citizens is in prison and a bulk of the inmates are minorities. America holds a quarter of the world's prisoners and Louisiana alone has thousands of inmates and is considered by some to be the prison capital of the world. The prison industrial complex has a vested interest in keeping people behind bars because they can bring in billions of dollars in profits.
