Anti-lockdown proteststers have charged at police in central London today, some hurling bottles and smoke bombs as they demand an end to lockdown restrictions.

Footage on social media shows officers pinning demonstrators to the ground as the scene in the capital turns ugly.

The Metropolitan Police say more than 60 people have arrests so far. In a statement, the force said: ‘These were for a number of different offences, including breaching coronavirus restrictions. We expect this number to rise. We continue to urge people to go home.’

Anti-vaxxers chanting ‘freedom’ have been making their way towards Oxford Street from Hyde Park, with some pushing their way past a line of police.

Officers wearing helmets faced booing and chants of ‘shame on you’ as they traffic was temporarily blocked on Regents Street while they attempted to handcuff people on the ground in the middle of the road.
