Donald Trump has privately blamed 'Antifa people' for storming the US Capitol but acknowledged that he bears some blame for the unrest that broke out, according to top Republican sources. Trump made the remarks in a 30-minute-plus phone call with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, reports Axios, citing a White House official and another source familiar with the call.
During the conversation, Trump reportedly told McCarthy he thought 'Antifa people' were behind Wednesday's insurrection, but McCarthy was having none of it and reportedly said, 'It’s not Antifa, it’s MAGA. I know. I was there.' Clear video and documentary evidence shows the rioters were overwhelmingly Trump's supporters.
Later, in a meeting with House Republicans, McCarthy said Trump bears some blame for the riots and has accepted some responsibility, Politico reports.
Trump, who has challenged the validity of Biden’s election win, initially praised his supporters but later condemned the violence.
