Facebook battles wave of coronavirus 5G conspiracy theories
Groups promoting baseless conspiracy theories about 5G have gained prevalence on social media

Facebook is battling a surge in posts promoting baseless conspiracy theories linking coronavirus to 5G.
The trend follows the emergence of videos on the site purportedly showing telecommunications masts on fire.
West Midlands Fire Service said eight firefighters attended an incident on Thursday evening, involving a 70-foot tower on a telecommunications site Birmingham. A police spokesman said they had yet to confirm if the fire was suspicious.
During and after the incident, videos claiming to show 5G towers on fire were posted to a Facebook group alongside comments encouraging users to do the same to "save humanity." The group has since been banned by Facebook.
Another video circulated on social media, including on Twitter and Whatsapp, shows a woman harassing two network engineers laying fibre claiming the cables were “killing people”....
