In a strong case of ‘have you looked in the mirror lately?’ Czech President Milos Zeman has said he finds transgender people ‘disgusting.’
Commenting on a controversial Hungarian law that bans people from telling under-18s about LGBT people or lifestyles, Zeman told TV station CNN Prima: ‘If you undergo a sex-change operation you are basically committing a crime of self-harm. Every surgery is a risk and these transgender people to me are disgusting.’
It’s not clear if this repulsion is due to any unpleasant or surprising personal interaction, but it seems his distaste isn’t limited to transgender people. Zeman also said that he was ‘completely annoyed by the suffragettes, the Me Too movement and Prague Pride.’
Fortunately for trans people, gay people and women, Czech presidents have very few executive powers. Fortunately for Zeman, it’s unlikely they want to go near him anyway.
