YouTuber Turns Two Giant Water Bottles Into a Plasma Cannon... For Science
24 April 2019
You may remember our coverage of the YouTube inventor who created a small, but compelling, propane-powered rifle that fired empty soda bottles. As with most explosions, plasma guns, and death rays that we discover on the Internet, our first thought was... well, how could someone make a larger version of it? Fortunately we're not alone in this sentiment and a new video by YouTuber StanCurtin proves it. Rather than stick to a small-scale mounted rifle, this intrepid spirit – whose YouTube channel is full of useful DIY videos – decided to link two five gallon water bottles to some plastic tubing, an electric spark igniter, and a tank of gas, then strap the contraption to a table in his backyard.
The result is as satisfying as you might think and it's earned him a million and a half views. Most importantly – and we say this with the usual disclaimer that you shouldn't try this at home – he details his build, including one experiment that destroyed one of the bottles (ProTip: don't use short tubing).
