梵蒂岡指出，大家都認為教會的教誨受到了損害，另外在領導方面也出現了信任危機。
這些主教們表示，他們現在願意與調查醜聞事件的愛爾蘭當局進行合作。
一份獨立報告顯示，愛爾蘭天主教會領導人在試圖庇護有關的性侵犯行為。

愛爾蘭的24名天主教主教星期一（2月15日）將覲見教宗本篤十六世。
教宗希望通過這一史無前例的大規模召見與愛爾蘭主教們討論當地的神職人員性侵犯兒童醜聞。
去年一項調查發現，愛爾蘭天主教會數十年來一直對有性侵犯兒童行為的教會成員進行庇護。
所有的愛爾蘭主教都將被要求向教宗進行陳述。
有關醜聞曝光以來，愛爾蘭已經有四位被指有庇護行為的主教辭職。

Pope to question Irish bishops on 'hidden' child abuse

Ireland's Roman Catholic bishops are to visit the Vatican to discuss reports of widespread child abuse within the Irish Church.
During the two-day meeting, Pope Benedict XVI, 24 Irish bishops and top Vatican officials will discuss a report by the Murphy Commission which in November accused the church of "obsessively" hiding child abuse in the Dublin archdiocese.
The clergy had also operated a policy of "don't ask, don't tell" from 1975 to 2004, the report continued.
The Pope has already declared that he is "disturbed and distressed" by the report and shares the "outrage, betrayal and shame" felt by the Irish people.
Four bishops have already resigned over the scandal. Martin Drennan of Galway, a bishop named in the investigation will also be present at the meetings. He has so far refused to step down, saying that he did nothing to endanger children.
Survivors of clerical abuse have forewarned the meeting in Rome that they seek meaningful responses from it.
"They have two days to get their act together. If they don't do that, there is no point in engaging with them any more," Andrew Madden, one of the first people to go public about the abuse said on Monday.
