Comments into the Depth:
Meanwhile, her overlords are safely watching the drama unfold impassively and with yawning boredom from their penthouse towers in Beijing.
They will disappear her, too.
She's disappearing herself. She can't even appear in public without being both a harbinger and a pariah. Better for her to crawl back under a rock and wait for it to blow over so that other people screw it up. Then she'll have some underlings to throw under the bus while saying it wasn't my fault.
Don't pity the cowardly person who sold out her people.
Which specific people are you referring to? She is in a rock and hard place and is a candidate to be thrown under the bus. It all depends on which side is perceived to be the good guy. No matter what, her head will soon be chopped off either virtually or literally. It's just a matter of when and by who.She had the immediate choice to voice her disagreement with the mainland and alert HK when she learned of this. Even if she had to request asylum elsewhere to do so.
Now she whines that the people of HK hate her?
C'mon. Her choice.
I agree. Although, regardless of compensation and authority she agreed to having I don't think anybody in the world would want to be in her place right now. She probably jumped at it because she got tired of going nowhere fast somewhere else in the party.
She really screwed herself and it's likely this was some kind of opportunity to fulfill her ego and put a feather in her cap. It was a vanity project that she had no idea what she got into and it did not turn out to be the easy gig she thought it would be. She went from so called hero to zero overnight and that extradition edict did her in.
It's hard being governor Tarkin when one has to report to the Emperor and his ilk halfway across the galaxy. Meanwhile, one still has to find the rebel base to blow it up and there is no Death Star to work with. And the stormtroopers are antsy and clueless. At the same time, how can you tell the difference when it comes to Asia? Looks like it is another Tiananmen 2.0.
