U.S. Considers Cancelling H1N1 Vaccine Orders

(Washington, DC) -- No decision has been by U.S. health officials on whether to cancel or sell its orders for the H1N1 flu vaccine.

An official with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says demand for the vaccine is steady and the focus remains on mass immunizations.

The U.S. currently has contracts for 251-million doses of bulk vaccine from five pharmaceutical companies.

As the U.S. mulls over its decision to cancel orders, Germany has arrived at the decision to do so.

Officials there are planning to cancel half of the 50-million orders for the H1N1 vaccine from GlaxoSmithKline.

Doctors in Germany had initially thought two doses of the vaccine would be needed to stave off flu.

Meantime, France has already placed a stop on over half it orders.
