(NaturalNews) The American Chemistry Council (ACC) has never met a chemical it didn't like. The organization is a chemical advocacy group whose members include all the largest chemical producers such as Monsanto, Bayer, Merck, Chevron, DuPont and many more. It's like a Who's Who of companies whose products pollute the world, in my opinion.

Much like Big Tobacco did with nicotine -- "It's not addictive, we swear!" -- the ACC says bisphenol A (BPA) is perfectly safe for you. Drink all you want!
As the ACC's Lisa Harrison told CBS News, "What's important to remember is the FDA indicated that the BPA has not been proven harmful to children or adults."

This is the default position of all the chemical companies who poison our bodies and our planet: All synthetic chemicals are "safe" until you prove them dangerous.
It's a hazardous assumption to make, of course. The more reasonable assumption would be that all synthetic chemicals are dangerous until proven safe, but that position wouldn't allow these companies to sell very many chemicals, would it?

The FDA, for its part, has been engaged in a conspiracy of silence to avoid admitting that BPA is dangerous for human health. This conspiracy was recently shattered when the FDA's own science advisors blasted the agency for ignoring over 100 published studies showing BPA was dangerous. The FDA, you see, had discarded those 100+ studies and, instead, based its conclusions on just two studies that happened to be funded by the chemical industry.
That's how the FDA operates across the board: Ignore all the science you don't like, and cherry-pick the science you want to believe, even if it's all been funded by the chemical companies. By relying on that gimmick, the FDA was able to maintain its intellectually dishonest position that BPA posed no risk to human healthThere's also evidence of corruption and fraud in the FDA's position on BPA. Did you know, for example, that the chairman of the FDA panel making a key decision on BPA "safety" -- Martin Philbert -- also sits at the top of a company that received a secret $5 million payment (http://www.naturalnews.com/026400_B...).

But the scientific evidence against BPA is now so large than even the FDA can't continue to stonewall the public on this issue. BPA is dangerous to human health, and it should be banned from all items that come into contact with foods (which includes soup can linings, food packaging, water bottles and much more...).

An estimated nine in 10 people have traces of Bisphenol A, or BPA, in their bodies.

BPA is one of the world’s most common chemicals, used to make everything from plastic bottles to compact discs and credit card receipts.

But it has been at the centre of controversy amid claims that it can cause developmental problems in children.

Previous studies in animals have suggested that BPA, which mimics the effect of oestrogen in the body, could cause the early onset of puberty and even trigger obesity.

In response some manufacturers have started to make products without BPA, in particular baby’s bottles.

Tests carried out on more than 1,400 Americans between 2005 and 2006, as part of a nationwide study, show those with the highest levels of BPA in their bodies were 33 per cent more likely to develop heart disease than those with the lowest levels.

A study carried on a similar group between 2003 and 2004 suggested that those with large amounts of BPA in their bodies were twice as likely to develop heart disease.

However, that group had been exposed to higher levels of BPA, which could explain the difference, researchers said.

However, they warned that they did not understand the biological reason for the link between BPA and heart disease.

Prof Tamara Galloway, from the University of Exeter, a member of the research team, said: "We now need to investigate what causes these health risk associations in more detail and to clarify whether they are caused by BPA itself or by some other factor linked to BPA exposure.

She added: “The risks associated with exposure to BPA may be small, but they are relevant to very large numbers of people."

Prof David Melzer, from the Peninsula Medical School, who led the research, published in the journal, PLoS ONE, added: "This is only the second analysis of BPA in a large human population sample.

“It has allowed us to largely confirm our original analysis and exclude the possibility that our original findings were a statistical 'blip'"

More than two million tonnes of BPA are thought to be produced across the world every year.

The food processing world is reeling right now one day after a shocking new series of tests released by Consumer Reports revealed that many leading brands of canned foods contain Bisphenol A (BPA)—a toxic chemical linked to health risks including reproductive abnormalities, neurological effects, heightened risk of breast and prostate cancers, diabetes, heart disease and other serious health problems.BPA is used in the lining of cans and the toxin leaches from the lining into the food.

According to Consumer Reports just a couple of servings of canned food can exceed scientific limits on daily exposure for children.

The federal government is currently studying the dangers of BPA and advocates are calling on the FDA to ban the use of BPA in food and beverage packaging by the end of the year. Companies in other industries, including Wal-Mart, Target, Nalgene, and Babies R Us have already made commitments to stop using BPA.

The food industry, however, is fighting hard to stop any government regulation. They say it is too logistically complicated to move away from BPA-lined cans.

(NaturalNews) A recent study on dietary influences on IQ turned up a surprising connection: children who ate margarine regularly scored significantly lower on intelligence tests than their peers.

The study was conducted by researchers from Auckland University in New Zealand and published in the journal Intelligence.

Researchers studied the dietary intake and intelligence scores of children born in the mid-1990s.

"We found a number of dietary factors to be significantly associated with intelligence measures," the researchers said. "The association between margarine consumption and IQ scores was the most consistent and novel finding."

After adjusting for other factors that might influence IQ, including socioeconomic status, the researchers found that children who ate margarine daily scored three points lower on IQ tests by the age of three-and-a-half than children with lower margarine consumption.

By the age of seven, the average IQ scores of some margarine eaters were six points below those of their peers. This occurred only in children who had been born underweight, suggesting that disadvantaged brains might be more vulnerable to diet-induced problems.

Because the study was correlational, researchers were unable to determine what exactly caused the IQ gap between the two groups of children. They suspect, however, that the culprit may be transfats, also known as partially hydrogenated oils.

Formed by adding hydrogen atoms to unsaturated vegetable oils, transfats have a longer shelf life and are more solid at room temperature than natural vegetable oils. In the mid-1990s, margarines were made with up to 17 percent transfats. In recent years, however, scientists discovered that not only do transfats have no nutritional value, they also drastically increase the risk of heart attack and death in those who consume them.

Most margarines now contain approximately 1 percent transfats.

Sian Porter of the British Dietetic Association noted that while margarine tends to be healthier than butter, dietary consumption of both should be kept low.
