187 children killed in Yemen war, report says

Some 187 children have been killed in the war in northern Yemen since August, according to a report issued by UNICEF and the Yemen children's rights organization SEYAJ.
自8月以來187名兒童已在北也門戰爭中被殺，根據聯合國兒童基金會和也門兒童權利組織 SEYAJ發表的報告。
The report issued on Monday mainly placed the blame for the children's deaths on government-backed militias fighting the Shia Houthis in northern Yemen.

It said most of the children were killed in the fighting but estimated that around 30 percent died of hunger when food supplies to civilians were cut off due to the war.

The UNICEF/SEYAJ report also stated that over 70,000 children have been displaced in the northern cities of Sa'ada and Amran.

The fighting exacted heavy collateral damage on the city of Sa'da, where two hospitals and three clinics were destroyed, it added.

The report went on to say that sufficient humanitarian assistance must be delivered to the displaced people and aid convoys must be given safe passage.
Meanwhile, government officials said that at least 80 Yemenis have been arrested in the south of the country during three days of search operations.
The sweeps were made after army posts were attacked and shops set on fire.
Residents in the south complain that northerners have not honored the 1990 agreement which united the southern and northern regions.
Tensions flared when a southern protester was killed earlier this month after police opened fire on so-called cessationists.
