豬流感病毒-我們應否停止擔心?

H1N1(豬)流感病毒-我們應否停止擔心?
H1N1 (swine) flu – should we stop worrying?
January 8, 8:51 AMAtlanta Health Care Examiner

The CDC has recently released information that indicates that the H1N1 flu epidemic may not be over. Part of the reason for the concern is that in the 1957 flu epidemic, public officials believed that the flu danger was past by mid winter and recommended that people no longer needed to get the flu vaccine. Then there was another wave of deaths in March of 1958.
The CDC is now recommending that everyone get the flu vaccine for the H1N1 strain of the flu. Prior to this time, there was not enough vaccine to go around. Now that supplies are available, the official recommendation is that everyone should go ahead and get the shot. While it is still believed that older people are less susceptible to this flu, deaths have occurred at every age. It is also important to remember that this flu began in the "off" season, in the Spring.

The shot is now available for free in the health departments around the state. In addition, you can go to many of the large drugstore chains and pay a nominal fee (usually less than $20) to have the shot. You should call ahead and verify that they have the vaccine and when the shots are available.

To date there have been nearly 1700 deaths from this flu. Stay tuned! It may not be over yet.
